Doctor Who 12.x Instant Reaction Post
Jan. 3rd, 2021 01:36 pmHi, guys. I'm an idiot. I locked myself out of my Dreamwidth account, and I can't reset the password because it's linked to an ancient, abandoned email address. I'm not a prolific poster by any means, but I do like to have somewhere on the internet to babble about Doctor Who. I'm still hoping I can figure out a way back in to c_carol, but in case I can't, here's a placeholder.
It's ridiculous to create a new account on a dying platform, but I just can't deal with the Tumblr. I tried, I really did, but I got overwhelmed with shyness about posting there, where I don't really know anybody and I don't quite understand how anything works. DW makes _sense_ to me in a way that modern Socials just don't. I am an old person, get off my lawn.
Anyway, I watched 'Revolution of the Daleks' yesterday, that means it must be time for an Instant Reaction Post! As usual, here's a jumbled list of thoughts and feelings in no particular order.
* Overall, I liked it. Still kind of Chibnally, but definitely above-average for him.
* The Doctor is so visibly not-OK that even the companions notice it, but she's handling being not-OK much better than any of the other 21st century Doctors have. I'm kind of proud of her.
* Yaz is still very much in the hero-worshipping 'The Doctor is completely wonderful' phase. I'm afraid she's in for a really rough disillusionment one of these days.
* Didn't mind seeing the Robertson character return as much as I would have expected, maybe because this time they gave him a little more to do than _just_ being a transparent caricature of Trump.
* I think the biggest issue I have with this episode is the casual destruction of the spare Tardis. I'm sure that normal Tardises don't have nearly the degree of individuality and personhood that _our_ Tardis does, but it's still kind of a living-ish, sentient-ish being, isn't it? It's not like blowing up an ordinary spaceship. It's that Chibnally thing of not really thinking through the moral implications, again.
