Doctor Who 13.3 Instant Reaction Post
Nov. 16th, 2021 07:25 pmJust finished watching "Once, Upon Time"...
* Wow. That was very.
* If Chibnall can do _that_, then what's he been doing for the past two seasons???
* Even for an oversized episode, that seemed to contain more than one episode-worth of stuff. I'm not sure how I feel about that. Except that I feel a little like I just ate an entire extra-large pizza. Possibly ham-and-pineapple?
* I thought I kind of understood what the Flux did? Apparently not.
* You know how people used to whine about how complicated and hard-to-follow the plots were under Moffatt? They're really gonna hate this one, aren't they?
* I mean, underneath it all, it's probably not gonna be _hugely_ more complicated than Moffatt's weird time stuff, but it's presented very nonlinearly and really expects you to work to keep up. I wonder what kids are going to make of it.
* I don't like the main baddies. I haven't figured out yet exactly _why_ they irritate me so much, but they really, really do.
* The 'Fugitive Doctor' is awesome, and a nice surprise, but unfortunately she comes attached to all the Chibnall Master Plan stuff that I kind of hate.
* It's kind of too early to tell, but I don't think I'm going to like the overall series arc very much. Although if the series continues this good, who knows...
* What I do like: Vinder!!!!! And Bel!!!!! And Vinder/Bel!!!!! It's sappy as it can be, but I don't care. Can we have the whole Vinder family as companions next?

This. This SO MUCH.

I feel that maybe if we take the manic pace & plotting in Flux and mix it with the lack of substance (the Master excepted, we love the Mr Master) in S11-12 there might be three seasons worth of decently plotted & exciting stories? Alas it seems to be all or nothing. (I'll take the 'all' oh yes!)
